The Battle for Synagis
Well, I've begun the battle with the insurance company over Synagis for Princess Kitten.
If we don't get it approved, this month will be the last time we're out of the house until April without me being obsessive over germs.
Synagis is the "vaccine" for RSV. All it does is make it less likely she'll get it or, if she does, make it less serious. She would need to get one shot every month from October until April. If she got RSV it would, at best, be BAD...at worst REALLY REALLY horrible. At least according to what I've been told by the NICU and by the pediatrician.
The insurance company say she doesn't meet the criteria. She needed to be born at less than 2200 grams, a history of lung problems in the family, exposed to smoke, and in daycare or around other children for so many hours per week.
Let's see what you think -
Princess Kitten was born at 1864 grams. I have asthma and NeverExMarine's mom had asthma. My mom and stepdad smoke, while we don't visit that often and they don't smoke in the same room that she's in...that's STILL exposure to smoke! She isn't in daycare or around other children for so many hours per week. However, she DOES sort of meet that one because Mr. Miracle is in preschool and he will bring home everything he is exposed to...isn't that the SAME exposure???
If we don't get the shots, we've been told to hibernate. When we MUST go out, we are to keep people away from Princess Kitten and make sure nobody touches her, or if they do that they have JUST washed and sanitized their hands.
Stupid question, but if we have to do that for her, don't we have to do that for ourselves too? If I get RSV I could pass it to her, same with NeverExMarine, Mr. Miracle, and anybody ELSE!
So if you want to visit Princess Kitten, make plans ASAP...because if you have, had, or seem like you might have a sniffle or any other cold type symptom you will be treated like a plague carrier and not allowed into our home or to even get within viewing distance of the peanuty-est of peanuts...
Sorry, but it's survival. There is literally nothing we can do to pay out of pocket for the injections, it's $1100 PER SHOT and she would need one shot each month...we don't have that kind of money.
We don't even know how we're going to keep the hospital from repossessing her!
